Perspective Shifting Coaching

Have you ever had an “ah ha” moment? Then you have experienced what it is like to be in the Gamma State (also known as the State of Enlightenment.)

This is the state in which your brain waves combine deep relaxation with heightened awareness. It is the state where you are able to hold seemingly conflicting ideas comfortably allowing you to make new connections, and see things in ways which were previously inaccessible to you. It is the state where “all is well.” Personally I love being here!

When scientists measure our brain waves they find that most of us spend most of our waking moments in the Beta State. This is a state of focused attention where we consider ourselves to be conscious, alert, intelligent, critical thinkers, productive, and perhaps witty.

One way to bring yourself into the Gamma State is to spend 6 minutes just casually looking at the Necker Cube on this page. Notice what you notice about what happens – and let yourself enjoy the perspectives.

When I was a young child anxiously waiting by the door for my father to come home because he had promised to take us to an amusement park, my mother told me to go outside and play because watching for him would make it take longer.

I’m pretty sure she meant that watching for him would make it SEEM TO take longer. We all know that feeling, don’t we?

But, with the discovery of the Quantum Zeno Effect, we now know that paying constant attention to the situation of something that is not happening the way we want it to actually DOES keep it from changing. Do You Know Anyone Who Has Been Diagnised With ADD or ADHD?

I turned on the radio in the car the other day and caught a few minutes of a comedian who said something that really struck a cord with me – as someone who has had the experience of working with “problem” kids. Unfortunately I didn’t catch his name, so I hope he won’t mind if I paraphrase him here:

“When I was a kid they were known as the popular kids.
Today we diagnose them with ADD, give them drugs, and
make them feel bad about themselves.”

It is important to remember that no one who is on the leading edge ever really “fits in,” do they? Those who make the biggest discoveries truly think (and often live) outside the box. The genius.
